What is Vellore's famous food, and which restaurants do locals recommend?

Vellore is best known for its biryani — the Arcot-style biryani of the region, along with simple South Indian vegetarian meals near CMC.
What to try
- Arcot / Vellore-style biryani – mutton, chicken and beef versions, usually with brinjal curry and onion raita.
- South Indian meals and tiffin – idli, dosa and full "meals", easy to find around CMC.
- Andhra and Chettinad food – spicier options, popular with students.
